About Tapestry

Founded in 1988, Tapestry Chamber Choir has developed into an exciting cultural gem for Newmarket, Aurora, and the surrounding area. The name Tapestry evokes the essence of this close-knit group of choral musicians as the choir has always aspired to create ‘weavings of song’ with rich colours and textures, while remaining free to explore the artistry of any composer of any period.

Tapestry singers enjoy singing a cappella, but just as much they welcome opportunities to perform with instrumentalists. Many of these instrumentalists come from within our own local community.

Tapestry has created two CD recordings: Take One is a collection of choir favourites and A Tapestry Christmas showcases both traditional and lesser known Christmas music.

In this our 25th season the choir embraces the opportunity to perform with its former Musical Director Andrew Slonetsky on June 9th. Mr. Slonetsky won the Leslie Bell Prize for choral conducting in 1990 and was the Head of Music at Huron Heights Secondary School for 25 years. He led Tapestry for 19 years before retiring in 2008 and sings with us when his schedule permits.
